Legendary actress Maia Morgenstern will join the U.S. release of Lucian Pintilie’s iconic THE OAK at Film Forum, in a new 4K restoration, part of the 17th edition of the Making Waves festival.

The well-known and beloved film and stage actress Maia Morgenstern graduated from the Theater and Cinematography Institute in Bucharest in 1985 and has built an impressive theatre career in Romania, with outstanding roles particularly on the stages of the Jewish State Theater in Bucharest, which she has also been managing since 2012 (including ”Tonight: Lola Blau”, ”The Kings Game” or ”Driving Miss Daisy”) and the National Theater in Bucharest (“The Greek Trilogy, ”A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, ”The Visit”, ”The Cherry Orchard” or ”Catherine the Great”). She’s been an equally reputed film actress in Romania (including ”The Secret of Bacchus”, ”The Oak”, ”The Earth’s Most Beloved Son” or, most recently, “The Goat and Her Three Kids”, to name a few), as well as internationally (Mel Gibson’s ”The Passion of the Christ” or Theo Angelopoulos’ “Ulysses’ Gaze”). Her talent and tireless work have been rewarded with numerous distinctions, including the Berlinale Silver Bear and Felix Award from the European Film Academy for the role of Nela in “The Oak”, or the Best Actress Award at Emma Festival London for the role of Mary in ”The Passion of Christ”, along with numerous awards for her theatre work. The European Parliament in Strasbourg named her Actress and Woman of the Year in 2003.
