Launched in 1992, Lucian Pintilie`s THE OAK is the first Romanian film ever restored in the 4k digital format, with the support of BRD – Groupe Société Générale and Fundația9 through the “Lucian Pintilie” Cinema Fund.
This new version had its world premiere at the Lumière 2019 Grand Lyon Film Festival on 15 October 2019.
It premieres in Romanian cinemas in February 2020.
The restoration process took six months and aimed at improving the image and sound and was performed by Avanpost Media, the largest high-end postproduction facility in Bucharest.
The restoration of Lucian Pintilie’s work is part of the Fundația9 through the “Lucian Pintilie” Cinema Fund, launched in 2018 at the initiative of Corina Șuteu, a member of the Foundation’s Board, with the consent of Cătălina Pintilie, the artist’s legatee. Through the “Lucian Pintilie” Cinema Fund, the Fundația9 supports young film directors and revitalizes the artistic and creative heritage of the great filmmakers.
